President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ms. Hafsat Abubakar Bakari as the Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), pending Senate confirmation.
Ms. Bakari, a legal expert with extensive experience in anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing, and counter-proliferation financing (AML/CFT/CPF), previously served as Deputy Director at the NFIU. She also held key positions at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), including Head of the General Services Unit, Head of the Strategy and Reorientation Unit, and Head of the Board Secretariat.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Ms. Bakari's ability to effectively lead the NFIU, particularly in addressing illicit financial flows and fraudulent activities in the foreign exchange markets.
