ASUU Reveals Tragic Death of Professor Due to Lack of Medical Care





A statement from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Abuja Zone has revealed the tragic death of Professor Segun Johnson Oyero from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, due to the inability to afford quality medical care. The coordinator of ASUU Abuja Zone, Salahu Muhammed, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, February 19, 2024.


Muhammed also highlighted the challenges faced by academics in Nigeria, including economic hardship, poor remuneration, and unfavorable working conditions. He stated that 46 members of the ASUU Abuja Zone had lost their lives due to these issues.





The ASUU Abuja Zone comprises the University of Abuja, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa State University, Nasarawa, and Ibrahim Babaginda University, Lapai.


Muhammed emphasized that the union has lost several members due to the difficult working conditions, psychological and emotional stress, and diseases related to these conditions.


"In fact, just two days back, the union lost an eminent Professor of Fisheries, Johnson Oyero of the Federal University of Technology, Minna due to inability to afford a quality medical facility," Muhammed said.
