Woman Opens Fire at Joel Osteen's Church, Fatally Shot by Police

A woman armed with a long gun entered Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church near Houston on Sunday, February 11, accompanied by her young child, and opened fire. Law enforcement officers fatally shot the woman, leading to critical injuries for the child and a bystander.

The incident unfolded just before 2 p.m. when the woman, dressed in a trench coat and carrying a backpack, began shooting inside the church. Two off-duty law enforcement officers intervened, shooting and killing the woman. The child, estimated to be around 4 or 5 years old, sustained critical gunshot wounds, while a bystander was shot in the leg and hospitalized in stable condition.

Authorities initially believed the shooter had a bomb and had sprayed an unknown substance on the ground, but subsequent investigations found no explosives. Joel Osteen, the pastor of Lakewood Church, expressed relief that the incident occurred between services, minimizing potential casualties.

Witnesses described chaos and panic as gunshots rang out, with congregants praying fervently amidst the turmoil. Despite the shock and uncertainty following the shooting, Osteen emphasized resilience and faith, vowing to remain strong in the face of adversity.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, leaving the community shaken and seeking answers in the aftermath of the tragic event.
