Minister of Power Urges State Involvement in Power Generation and Distribution

During a meeting with the Forum of Commissioners of Energy, which comprises energy commissioners from across the country, the Minister of Power emphasized the need for states to get involved in power generation and distribution. He highlighted the success story of Abia State, where Geometrics Power Limited has established a 188-megawatt power generating plant supplying electricity to several local government areas.

The minister encouraged other states to adopt similar initiatives, emphasizing that with determination and endurance, achieving 24-hour power supply is possible. He also reiterated the federal government's commitment to addressing the nation's power challenges, stating that efforts are underway to implement long-term solutions rather than temporary fixes.

In addition, the minister mentioned that the government has acquired mobile power substations to address disruptions in power supply. He urged state governments to get involved in distribution networks and bridge the meter gap to improve electricity access.

The Chairman of the Forum, who is also the Commissioner of Power and Energy in Cross River State, expressed support for the federal government's electricity reforms and emphasized the states' responsibility in running the affairs of electricity within their jurisdictions.
