The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a counterfeit bottled water operation in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, targeting the popular brand Eva water.
Acting on a tipoff, NAFDAC officials raided a dilapidated shop on Pipe Line Road, Eneka, disguised as a pool house, where suspects were found producing the fake water.
The operation revealed a disturbing process – used Eva plastic bottles were refilled with contaminated water drawn from a paint bucket, filtered through a dirty rubber funnel covered with cloth. Counterfeit Eva labels were then applied to the bottles, corked with fake Eva corks.
One suspect, Chibunna James, was apprehended while loading the adulterated water for distribution, while the mastermind remains at large.
The seized products were confiscated and evacuated to the NAFDAC office for further investigation.
