FAAN Shuts Down KFC Facility at Lagos Airport Over Discrimination Complaint

Following a complaint by a Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM) regarding discriminatory treatment at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, the management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken decisive action.

In accordance with Lagos State law on People with Special Needs, FAAN has closed the KFC facility at the airport with effect from March 28, 2024. This action is based on Part C, section 55 of the General Provisions on Discrimination, which prohibits depriving individuals of access to any place, vehicle, or facility that members of the public are entitled to enter or use on the basis of disability.

FAAN's Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, intervened promptly by deploying a management team to investigate the allegation. The team comprised the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Regional Manager South West, Mr. Sunday Ayodele, the Acting General Manager Public Affairs, Mrs. Ijeoma Nwosu-Igbo, and the International Terminal Manager, Mr. Kerri.

Based on the team's findings, FAAN has instructed the KFC management to issue an unreserved written apology to the affected PRM. Additionally, a policy statement of non-discrimination must be written and prominently displayed at the facility's doorpost before it can resume operations.

FAAN has expressed its sincere apologies to the affected PRM and reassured all airport users that efforts will continue to be made to ensure that the rights of every passenger are upheld without infringement.

Mrs. Obiageli Orah
