Peter Obi Criticizes Nigeria's Reliance on Aid, Calls for Economic Reforms

Politician Peter Obi has criticized Nigeria's reliance on aid, calling it a 'national disgrace' that war-torn Ukraine is donating food to Nigeria. Ukraine recently donated 25,000 tons of wheat to Nigeria to help tackle the food crisis affecting over 1.3 million people in northeast Nigeria.

In a statement, Obi praised Ukraine's generosity but highlighted the irony that a country engaged in a brutal war with Russia is able to assist Nigeria, which is officially at peace. He emphasized the need for sound political leadership and economic reforms to address Nigeria's reliance on aid and improve the standard of living for its citizens.

Obi pointed out that despite its challenges, Ukraine feeds itself and exports agricultural products worth over $25 billion, similar to Nigeria's crude oil export earnings. He called for investments in productive sectors like agriculture, addressing insecurity to enable farmers to return to their fields, and supporting small businesses.

He concluded by expressing optimism that with the right policies and investments, Nigeria can overcome its current challenges and become a productive and self-sufficient nation.
