The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly decided to appoint a local coach to replace Jose Peseiro as the head coach of the Super Eagles.
Following a meeting between the NFF executive committee and technical committee on Sunday, April 28, it was agreed that an indigenous coach would be appointed for the national team.
According to Complete Sports, the NFF is expected to unveil the new coach this week.
Jose Peseiro's contract expired at the end of February, leading to his departure from the position. The Portuguese coach guided the Super Eagles to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
Finidi George, a former assistant coach under Peseiro, took charge of the team for the friendlies against Ghana and Mali last month and is also a contender for the head coach position.
The Super Eagles are set to face South Africa and Benin Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.
