The Dangote Oil Refining Company marked a milestone with the receipt of its first shipment of one million barrels of Agbami crude grade from the Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited (STASCO). The S&P Global MINT tanker tracking platform revealed that the 950,000-barrel cargo is en route to Lekki, Lagos State, and is expected to arrive by December 7, 2023.
Chartered by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), this Suezmax tanker signals a significant step as the Dangote Refinery accelerates its operations. The refinery, launched in May by former President Muhammadu Buhari, aims to end Nigeria's reliance on crude gasoline imports. Upon full operation, it is expected to produce 327,000 b/d of gasoline, 244,000 b/d of gasoil/diesel, 56,000 b/d of jet fuel/kerosene, and 290,000 mt/year of propane/LPG.
Additionally, the refinery's design for 100% Nigerian crude showcases its versatility to process various crudes, including African grades and those from the Middle East, the US, and other countries. Dangote Refinery aims to alleviate fuel supply challenges in Nigeria and West African countries and is focused on ramping up to its full 650,000 bpd capacity in the coming months."
