On January 2, 2024, Birmingham City Football Club announced the departure of Manager Wayne Rooney and First Team Coach Carl Robinson after they failed to win 13 of 15 games in charge.
Despite their best efforts, the Board believes that a change in management is necessary for the best interests of the Football Club. Both the Club’s Board and management remain united in their commitment to driving transformation and making bold moves to rebuild Birmingham City, aligning with the expectations of fans and the community.
The Board expressed sincere thanks to Wayne Rooney and Carl Robinson for their dedication and efforts during their time with the club.
Garry Cook, Chief Executive Officer, stated, “We are dedicated to taking the necessary steps to achieve success at St. Andrew’s. Unfortunately, Wayne’s tenure with us did not unfold as planned, leading us to move in a different direction. The search for a successor has begun, and we will update supporters as soon as we have further news.”
In the interim, Professional Development Coach Steve Spooner will assume responsibility for Men’s First Team matters. The rest of the coaching staff will continue their duties to support Spooner. The Club has indicated that no further comments will be made at this time.
