Catholic Priest Arrested for Organizing Gay Orgy

A Catholic priest, Father Tomasz Zmarzły, from the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Angels in Poland, has been arrested on charges related to sex and drug crimes, along with failure to assist someone at medical risk. The arrest follows a police investigation into an incident last year where Father Zmarzły allegedly organized a small party at his apartment in Dąbrowa Górnicza, during which a man was hospitalized after overdosing on erectile dysfunction pills.

Prosecutors initiated an investigation after the priest refused entry to police and paramedics who responded to a call about the unconscious man. Leaked telephone recordings indicated that the victim might have been administered the date rape drug GHB. In the recordings, a man believed to be a male prostitute is heard pleading for urgent assistance, describing the victim's condition and the challenges faced in gaining entry to the apartment.

Upon finally accessing the apartment, authorities discovered a naked man unconscious on the floor, who was subsequently taken to the hospital and later discharged after recovering. Father Zmarzły, who was suspended after the incident, was found to have been seeking hookups on the gay dating app Grindr.

According to his former partner, Father Zmarzły had contemplated not accepting priestly ordination due to uncertainties about his sexuality but ultimately decided to become a priest. The incident caused local outrage in the predominantly Catholic town, leading to an attempt to burn down the church and a withdrawal of ties between the local mayor and the church overseen by the diocese of Sosnowiec.

Mayor Arkadiusz Chęciński, expressing concern about the negative impact on the city's reputation, announced the suspension of cooperation with the Diocese of Sosnowiec until clear corrective actions are taken. The controversy has stirred public reactions, with the faithful preventing their children from attending services and the community expressing a need for accountability and transparency in addressing the issue.
