Dutch Prosecutors Seek Nine-Year Prison Term for Spartak Moscow Forward Quincy Promes on Drug Trafficking Charges

Dutch prosecutors are pursuing a nine-year prison sentence for Spartak Moscow forward Quincy Promes on charges related to drug trafficking.

The Netherlands international was charged in May for his alleged involvement in smuggling 1,370 kilograms of cocaine intercepted in Antwerp in January 2020.

Prosecutors accuse Promes and a 32-year-old co-suspect of importing, exporting, transporting, and possessing the drugs, which were concealed in a shipment of sea salt from Brazil.

Prosecutors argue that Promes, through his wealth, normalizes and romanticizes the cocaine trade, placing him higher on the organizational ladder.

Promes, who denies the charges, did not attend the court hearing in Amsterdam. He was previously sentenced to 18 months in jail for assault in connection with a 2020 fight and has appealed that sentence.
