Explosion in Ibadan Claims Two Lives and Injures 77



Two people have been reported dead, and 77 others sustained injuries in an explosion that rocked Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Tuesday evening. Governor Seyi Makinde, who visited the scene, confirmed the casualties and revealed that the blast occurred at Adeyi Avenue in Bodija but was felt across various parts of the city.


Preliminary investigations by security agencies indicate that the explosion was caused by illegal miners who had stored explosive devices in one of the houses in Bodija. Governor Makinde assured that investigations were ongoing, and anyone found responsible would be held accountable.


The governor directed the government to cover the medical bills of all victims and provide temporary accommodation for those whose homes were affected. Emergency response teams, including earthmoving equipment, ambulances, and security personnel, were deployed to conduct comprehensive search and rescue operations throughout the night.


A total of 77 injured victims were treated and discharged, with two fatalities reported. Governor Makinde expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and pledged support for those affected in rebuilding their lives.


Residents were urged to contact emergency services and remain calm, staying away from the incident site to facilitate rescue operations. The governor expressed gratitude to first responders, security personnel, and medical teams involved in the rescue efforts.


He concluded by requesting prayers for those affected by the disaster and emphasizing the ongoing commitment to rescue operations.
