Jennifer Lawrence Explains Why She Told Robert De Niro to Leave Her Wedding

Weddings can be stress-inducing for anyone, and even A-list actress Jennifer Lawrence found herself navigating the challenges during her marriage to art gallery director Cooke Maroney in 2019. In a recent interview at the Golden Globes, the 33-year-old actress humorously shared her somewhat relatable experience, including the memorable moment when she asked legendary actor Robert De Niro to leave her rehearsal dinner.

Lawrence described the bridal experience as "awful" and "so stressful," highlighting the constant concern about whether guests were enjoying themselves. She recounted a specific incident from her October nuptials in Rhode Island where she was worried about guests being cold, only to find out later that her friends had reassured her everything was fine, while her mom revealed the reality that it was freezing and her grandmother nearly suffered due to the cold.

Adding to the wedding jitters was the presence of Robert De Niro, her co-star from films like "Silver Linings Playbook" (2012) and "American Hustle" (2013). Lawrence recalled noticing De Niro, who didn't know many people at the event, looking like he had better things to do during her rehearsal dinner.

Feeling concerned, Lawrence decided to approach De Niro and politely suggested he go home. Although he was gracious and engaged in conversation with her parents, Lawrence admitted, "I was like, 'Go.'" Surprisingly, this directive brought her a sense of relief, and she expressed that asking De Niro to leave made her feel better.

In a lighthearted tone, Lawrence's recounting of this episode suggests that her request for De Niro to depart might be one of the happiest moments someone has had in seeing the Oscar-winning actor leave a party.
