South Africa Coach Expresses Desire to Upset Nigeria and Reach AFCON Final

South Africa's coach, Hugo Broos, has conveyed his team's determination to reach the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and potentially upset the tournament favorites, Nigeria.

The Bafana Bafana are set to face the Super Eagles in the semi-final at the Stade de la Paix, Bouake, on Wednesday night, February 7. Despite Nigeria being considered favorites, Broos believes his team can surprise Jose Peseiro's men.

"Reaching the semifinal is very special for South African football," said the Belgian coach, who previously led Cameroon to victory in the 2017 AFCON. "Maybe we can make a surprise against Nigeria now. The hunger is big to play in the final next Sunday."

Notably, the Super Eagles had previously defeated South Africa 2-0 in the semi-final of the 2000 AFCON. In their most recent encounter at the 2019 edition, Nigeria won 2-1 in the quarter-finals.
