Federal Government Declares Public Holidays for Good Friday and Easter Monday Celebrations

The Federal Government has announced that Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, 2024, will be public holidays to observe Good Friday and Easter Monday respectively. The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Aishetu Ndayako, on Wednesday.

Minister Tunji-Ojo emphasized the significance of Easter, stating that it goes beyond religious observance to promote values of love, forgiveness, and compassion. He highlighted these values as essential for social cohesion and harmony in Nigeria.

The Minister called on Christians to embody these virtues, noting that they have the potential to positively impact Nigeria's socio-economic development by fostering unity, reducing conflicts, and encouraging cooperation among Nigerians.

He also encouraged Nigerians to demonstrate acts of charity and generosity towards the less privileged, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
