Former Arsenal midfielder Kristoffer Olsson has been diagnosed with brain clots after collapsing earlier this year. The Swedish player, currently with Midtjylland, was admitted to Aarhus University Hospital on February 20 after suffering from 'an acute disease related to the brain'. Placed on a ventilator, Olsson is now described as 'stable' but making 'little progress' in his recovery.
Olsson's condition involves 'several small blood clots on both sides of the brain' due to a rare inflammatory condition in the brain vessels. Despite this, he has shown 'an increasing degree of consciousness'. The statement released by Midtjylland mentioned that Olsson will be slowly weaned off the ventilator, but he remains hospitalized in intensive care. The exact time frame for his treatment and prognosis is still uncertain.
Having earned 47 caps for Sweden, Olsson, who has a wife and three-year-old son, played for Arsenal from 2011 to 2014 before joining Midtjylland. He also had stints at AUJ and Abderkecht before rejoining Midtjylland last year.
