Paul Akintelure, a prominent governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has passed away. Before his untimely demise, Akintelure had expressed concerns about threats to his life, both direct and indirect.
According to Vanguard, the politician had raised these concerns in a statement released by his spokesperson, Oladapo Akintelure, on Thursday, March 21, 2023. Despite hoping that the threats would diminish over time, Akintelure stated that they had only escalated, posing a serious threat to his life.
In his statement, Akintelure said, "The threats against me only strengthen my resolve to stand up for what is right and just. I will not allow fear to dictate our path forward. Let us embrace peace, progress, and unity."
Akintelure had previously run as the deputy governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) with Rotimi Akeredolu against Olusegun Mimiko, the then Labour Party flagbearer, who emerged victorious in the election. He also contested a senatorial election against the Peoples Democratic Party candidate but was unsuccessful.
A medical doctor by profession, Akintelure hailed from Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State. His passing comes at a crucial time as the build-up to the Ondo governorship election continues to gather momentum.
