Jose Peseiro Steps Down as Super Eagles Manager Ahead of AFCON 2025

 


Jose Peseiro has confirmed his departure as manager of the Super Eagles ahead of AFCON 2025. Peseiro, who guided the Eagles to a second-place finish at the 2023 African Cup of Nations, announced his exit in a statement on Friday, March 1, following the expiration of his contract on Thursday, February 29.


In his statement, Peseiro expressed pride and honor in coaching the Super Eagles, describing his 22 months with the team as a period of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm. He thanked Sir Amaju Pinnick, President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, Secretary Dayo Enebi, the NFF, all the staff, and especially the players, with whom he shared a great pleasure in leading.


Peseiro expressed gratitude to the Super Eagles family, stating that it had been a privilege to be part of it. He assured that despite his departure, he would always be there for the team.
