In the uproarious new comedy "Ricky Stanicky," three lifelong friends believe they've mastered the art of deceiving their wives. Their secret? They invented a fictitious friend named Ricky Stanicky, whom they claim needs their urgent help whenever they desire a spontaneous boys' weekend. But when their wives start to see through the ruse, the friends enlist a struggling rock tribute act to play the role of Ricky—leading to hilarious and chaotic consequences.
The film stars John Cena in the central role of the unpredictable Ricky Stanicky. The trio of friends includes the confident leader Dean, played by Zac Efron, the laid-back stoner Wes, played by comedian Jermaine Fowler, and the high-strung new dad JT, played by Andrew Santino.
Santino, known for his work in stand-up comedy and performances in TV series like "I'm Dying Up Here" and "This Is Us," is also the producer and host of the podcast "Whiskey Ginger." He co-hosts the "Bad Friends" podcast with comedian Bobby Lee.
While Santino's podcasting ventures have gained him recognition, he has also made notable TV appearances. He was part of the main cast of the FXX series "DAVE," playing the role of the titular character's roommate and manager, and had a recurring role in Netflix's "Beef."
In a recent interview with CBR, Santino discussed how his stand-up experience translates into his screen acting. He highlighted the importance of whittling down a character's essence to make them relatable and engaging to audiences, a skill he honed in crafting stand-up material.
While Santino acknowledges that stand-up and acting are distinct, he believes they share a common rhythm and timing. The pacing of a scene, he explains, is akin to the pacing of a stand-up act or joke, requiring a similar sense of timing to make it enjoyable and engaging for viewers.
