Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, has announced that the Abuja Rail Mass Transit (ART) project is now 97% complete and will be ready for commissioning by May 29. He made this statement after inspecting the Metro Station in Central Area and the station at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Wike mentioned that President Bola Tinubu had approved the schedule for the inauguration of projects to celebrate his one year in office, indicating the significance of the ART project. He praised the progress made by the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), ensuring that all renovation works on the stations will be completed before the commissioning date.
Regarding the possible extension of the rail lines to areas with high traffic, such as Nyanya, Wike stated that no commitment can be made at this time, as financial implications need to be considered. However, he acknowledged the importance of such extensions and indicated that discussions with the contractor would be held to explore the possibility.
