According to United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Executive Director Catherine Russell, more than 13,800 children have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war on October 7. She made this statement during a news conference in New York, emphasizing that thousands more have been injured, and many are on the brink of famine.
A separate statement from the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women revealed that "one child is injured or dies every 10 minutes" in Gaza. The statement also noted that more than 10,000 women have been killed since the war began, leaving 19,000 orphaned children, with 6,000 of them being directly affected.
UNICEF communication specialist Tess Ingram, who recently visited Gaza, shared her observations during a news conference in Geneva. She highlighted the high number of wounded children, not just in hospitals but also on the streets and in makeshift shelters, as they try to navigate their permanently altered lives.
