Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, and several other top Nigerian artists illuminated the Idoma International Carnival last Friday. The three-day event featured a vibrant parade, cultural performances, a beauty contest, and musical acts by renowned Nigerian artists.
The carnival commenced with lively dances, praises, and cultural displays that captivated the residents. Artists such as 2Baba, Harry Song, Terry G, Duncan Mighty, Portable, Chris Morgan, Teddy King, James Agbo, and others delivered outstanding renditions of their popular songs.
Originally known as the Agila Social and Economic Carnival when it began in 2013, the event has recently been rebranded as the Idoma International Carnival. It has gained national and international recognition for showcasing the rich Idoma culture, including music, dance, fashion, art, pageantry, and cuisine.
Addressing the audience at the opening ceremony, President of the Idoma International Carnival, Prince Edwin Ochai, highlighted the event's journey over the past ten years, emphasizing its role as a major street party in West Africa. He expressed his passion for preserving and promoting Idoma culture and noted the carnival's positive impact on the social and economic development of the region.
Ochai stated, "Since inception, it has been the melting point of Idoma culture; music and dance, fashion, art pageantry and food. It is a platform for social and economic development. Over the years, the carnival has empowered hundreds of women and youth through its economic empowerment scheme."
