Kwara State Traditional Ruler, Olukoro of Koro, Shot Dead in Palace Attack




On the night of February 2, unidentified gunmen invaded the palace of the Olukoro of Koro in Ekiti Local Government area of Kwara State, killing the traditional ruler, HRH retired General Segun Aremu. The attackers also abducted the monarch's wife and two others.


The Kwara State government confirmed the tragic incident in a statement issued by Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq condemned the killing as reckless, shocking, and abominable. He urged security agencies to spare no resources in tracking down the perpetrators, rescuing the abducted individuals, and bringing the culprits to justice.


The governor expressed condolences to the people of Koro, stating, "We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity. My profound condolences go to the people of Koro. Our hearts are broken, and we stand by them at this time and always."


The tragic incident highlights the security challenges facing certain regions and the need for swift and comprehensive actions to apprehend those responsible and prevent further acts of violence.
