The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has issued a warning that the current high temperatures experienced in the country are expected to persist.
According to the agency's latest weather update, temperatures have soared to 41°C in the North and 39°C in the South, and these elevated temperatures are forecasted to continue in the days ahead.
NIMET emphasized the risk of dehydration due to the extreme weather conditions, which can lead to health issues such as fainting, heat-related illnesses, respiratory problems, and increased susceptibility to chronic conditions like chickenpox, measles, heat rash, weakness, slight fever, and dry lips.
To cope with the heat, NIMET advised the public to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. Additionally, they recommended seeking shade, using fans, and wearing light, breathable clothing to reduce exposure to high temperatures. It was also advised to avoid strenuous physical activity during the peak heat hours of 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm.
The agency's warning comes as temperatures continue to soar across Nigeria, and it is important for individuals to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat and its associated health risks.
