Racheal Kundananji Joins Bay FC in Record-breaking Transfer from Madrid CFF

Racheal Kundananji, the Zambian forward, has completed a world-record transfer to Bay FC from Madrid CFF in the women’s game. The deal, valued at €735,000 (£685,000) plus a potential $75,000 in add-ons, surpasses the previous record of €500,000 (£426,000) set by Mayra Ramirez's move to Chelsea from Levante. Keira Walsh held the previous record of €470,000 (£400,000) when she moved to Barcelona from Manchester City two years ago.

Kundananji, who has scored 35 goals in 46 games for Madrid and is 23 years old, has signed a four-year contract with Bay FC. She joins a club that was founded just last April and is looking to make an impact in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Bay FC, backed by Sixth Street Partners, Staci Slaughter, Sheryl Sandberg, and Rick Welts, has made significant strides since its inception. With Albertin Montoya as head coach and the addition of defender Caprice Dydasco, the club is signaling its ambition in the NWSL.

General Manager Lucy Rushton expressed delight at adding Kundananji to the squad, praising her as a talented player with dynamic attacking qualities. Austin Buchanan, Bay's Director of Scouting, emphasized the club's commitment to raising the bar in women's sports and expressed excitement about Kundananji's arrival.

Bay FC will kick off their NWSL campaign on March 16, facing Angel City in their debut match.
