Manchester United Approach Newcastle's Dan Ashworth for Sporting Director Role

Manchester United has reportedly approached Newcastle's sporting director, Dan Ashworth, as their top choice to lead their new football operation at Old Trafford. Although there has been no formal contact between the two clubs yet, Ashworth is said to be open to the move. Given that Ashworth joined Newcastle just two years ago, significant compensation would likely be required if he were to make the switch.

Ashworth's impressive track record includes roles as the sporting and technical director at West Brom and later as the technical director at Brighton, where he played a key role in the success of both the men’s and women’s national teams during his tenure at the Football Association. His experience and reputation make him a desirable candidate for Manchester United, especially as they look to overhaul their transfer strategy under the ownership of INEOS.

The interest in Ashworth comes after the Premier League and the Football Association approved British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe's proposed bid to buy a minority stake in Manchester United. Ratcliffe, the owner of multinational chemicals company INEOS, has agreed to a deal to buy a stake worth roughly £1.2 billion and has been conducting meetings with club staff and associates as he finalizes the acquisition.

With Ratcliffe's deal nearing completion, Manchester United is expecting clearance from the FA for the ownership change. The swift appointment of Omar Berrada from Manchester City as the club's new chief executive, made in consultation with the Glazer family, indicates Ratcliffe's proactive approach to reshaping the club's leadership and strategy. Ashworth's potential move to Manchester United would be seen as a significant step in bolstering the club's football operations.
