US Authorities to Investigate Viral Video of Hushpuppi's Alleged Celebration in Detention Facility

The United States authorities have announced an investigation into a viral video allegedly showing convicted internet fraud kingpin Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, celebrating a birthday feast with others inside what is reported to be his detention facility at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Hushpuppi is currently serving an 11-year sentence in the U.S.

Tunde Adekunle, alias Tunde Ednut, an ally and social media influencer, celebrated his birthday on January 22, and a video surfaced showing a feast in what appeared to be a jail facility. Various foods, including jollof rice, pasta, and soda drinks, were displayed in the video.

The voice in the video, which many believed belonged to Hushpuppi, mentioned Tunde Ednut and presented a variety of delicacies. The footage showed a grey double bunk and a bed covered in white sheets, suggesting a prison interior.

Despite rumors of Hushpuppi enjoying his time behind bars, the United States Bureau of Prisons stated that its investigative department would conduct an inquiry to ascertain the facts about the viral video.

"We take these matters seriously," said the prison facility. Hushpuppi, 41, was convicted for his role in a multimillion-dollar international fraud scheme in 2022.

Efforts by Hushpuppi to reduce his 11-year sentence were dismissed by the Appeals Court for the Ninth Circuit in Los Angeles. He appealed for a review and reduced sentence, citing his behavior during his stay in jail, such as enrolling in educational courses and actively participating in cleaning prison facilities. However, the appellate judges denied his appeal.

Meanwhile, Olalekan Jacob Ponle, also known as Mr. Woodberry, another internet fraudster and ally of Hushpuppi, has asked the United States Court of Appeals to reduce his eight-year jail term, arguing that the sentence was wrongly calculated. Woodberry had pleaded guilty to wire fraud and agreed to surrender $8 million in proceeds as well as luxury cars and watches. He was convicted in July 2023 for scamming individuals and businesses of millions of dollars.
