Woman Identified in Lakewood Church Shooting; Motive Still Unclear

Genesse Ivonne Moreno, 36, has been identified as the woman who opened fire at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, on Sunday, February 11. Authorities revealed that the phrase "Free Palestine" was written on the weapon used in the attack.

Moreno entered the church just before a Spanish language service was scheduled to begin and began firing shots, causing chaos among the hundreds of attendees. Two off-duty officers working security at the church returned fire, fatally shooting Moreno. Sadly, a young boy, believed to be about 4 or 5 years old, was also shot and hospitalized in critical condition.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, with investigators still piecing together Moreno's history and potential motives. Chilling video footage captured the moment the service was disrupted by gunfire, with Moreno reportedly firing as many as 12 shots before being subdued.

Before succumbing to her injuries, Moreno claimed there was a bomb in the vicinity, prompting a search that found no explosives. She has a criminal history dating back to 2005 and was previously arrested under the name Jeffery Escalante, raising questions about her identity and potential motivations.

One civilian bystander was also injured in the shooting and is currently hospitalized in stable condition. While authorities have confirmed the phrase "Free Palestine" on Moreno's weapon, a definitive motive for the attack has yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing.
