Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Addresses Food Availability Concerns in Nigeria

During the sectoral debate on agriculture and food security at the House of Representatives, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, highlighted smuggling as a major factor affecting food availability in Nigeria. He stated that the smuggling of food out of Nigeria to neighboring countries has significantly impacted the availability of food items within the country.

The Comptroller General of Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, also addressed the issue, mentioning that the Nigeria Customs Service has started selling seized food items to vulnerable Nigerians as directed by the President. This initiative aims to address hunger and food scarcity by providing locally produced food items to those in need. Additionally, imported food items seized by the Nigeria Customs Service are being sold back to local markets for resale to Nigerians, as per the President's directive.

These measures are part of the government's efforts to ensure food security and address challenges related to food availability in Nigeria.
