Chelsea's young defender Alfie Gilchrist has taken another step in his breakthrough season by permanently joining the first-team dressing room at Cobham earlier this month. The 20-year-old, who has been with Chelsea's youth ranks since 2014 and recently signed a new long-term deal, has impressed under manager Mauricio Pochettino since making his Premier League debut in December. Gilchrist has since made a further six appearances for the Blues.
Reflecting on his debut, Gilchrist said, "My first touch was a good tackle and my second was just a smash. That’s what you’ve got to do, make sure the first thing you do is positive, and from there, you hope, it will take care of itself." He expressed his excitement at the opportunity and his determination to make a positive impact whenever given the chance to play.
Gilchrist's move to the first-team dressing room is another milestone in his remarkable season in West London, where he has been making a name for himself with his performances on the pitch.
