The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) is set to initiate night operations by the second quarter of 2024, as revealed by the Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Okhiria explained that current limitations to daytime operations, influenced by security concerns, would be overcome to cater to passengers' preferences.
The NRC plans to reintroduce passenger and freight trains on various routes, including Port-Harcourt to Aba, Lagos to Kano, and Kaduna due to dry ports.
This initiative translates to six daily train trips on standard gauge routes such as Lagos-Ibadan, Warri-Itakpe, and Abuja-Kaduna. The increased frequency is expected to commence before the second quarter of 2024, with the current schedule consisting of four daily trips.
