Anambra Lawyer Accused of Abusing Maid Surrenders to Police, Faces Arraignment



Adachukwu Okafor, the Anambra lawyer accused of abusing her 11-year-old maid, has turned herself in to the police and will be arraigned in court. This comes after the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, placed a N2 million bounty on her.


Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, media aide to the State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Hon Ify Obinabo, confirmed the development in a statement on Friday, February 16, 2024. Ikeanyionwu said the suspect surrendered to the Anambra Police Command in Awka.


Mrs. Okafor allegedly used knives and other sharp objects to inflict injuries on the minor, Happiness Nwafor. Obinabo stated that the suspect, Adachukwu, will be arraigned before the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Magistrate court in Awka next week.


Meanwhile, the victim is set to be discharged from the hospital.
