Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has expressed optimism that the value of the dollar will decrease against the naira in less than a month. Speaking at a stakeholder meeting in Abeokuta, he reassured the public that the federal government is prepared to tackle economic challenges and is aware of the issues at hand.
Abiodun stated, "I can assure you that the dollar will crash down in less than a month. The meeting we had with the President was very assuring, and now we know that there are saboteurs in the economy, but their aim will not succeed."
In response to the economic difficulties faced by the nation, the governor announced plans to provide essential food items such as rice, garri, and beans to citizens. Nearly 100 trailers of rice have been arranged for delivery, with offloading set to begin soon. The distribution will prioritize the elderly and vulnerable, who will receive the rice free of charge, while others can purchase it at the original price before the increase in the value of the dollar.
Abiodun also revealed that rice and other food items will be provided as palliatives for about 300,000 households in the state. Additionally, the state government will start offsetting the backlog of inherited deductions by committing N500 million monthly towards outstanding deductions. The government has also been paying N10,000 transport allowance to all civil servants for the past 8 months, totaling about N5 billion in immediate interventions across all sectors of the state economy.
