Arnold Schwarzenegger's Son, Joseph Baena, Explains Decision Not to Use Family Name

Joseph Baena, the son of Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and his former housekeeper Mildred Baena, has opened up about why he chooses not to use the family name despite his interest in following his father's footsteps in the fitness world and acting.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver married in 1986 and divorced in 2021, sharing four children together, including their youngest son Christopher, who is the same age as Joseph, 26. Schwarzenegger admitted to the affair with Mildred Baena in 2011, after acknowledging paternity.

Joseph spoke about his relationship with his father, describing him as a great father who has been supportive of his endeavors in education, acting, real estate, and bodybuilding. However, Joseph has decided to pursue his career independently and not rely on the family name.

He explained, "I think the main thing is that I am trying to do things on my own and pursue my career with my will, my determination, and my work ethic. It’s just doing everything through me." Joseph appreciates his family's support from afar and believes it's important to figure things out on his own as he grows into manhood.

Despite the shock of learning about his father's affair as a child, Joseph has always loved and respected both his parents. He considers himself honored to be part of the family and appreciates his father's advice and support.

Schwarzenegger has publicly acknowledged the impact his affair had on his family, calling it his biggest failure. He expressed regret for causing pain to Maria, their children, Joseph, Mildred, and everyone involved. He stated that he will have to live with that for the rest of his life.
