Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has been released from the Kuje Correctional Centre. Emefiele regained his freedom on Friday, December 22, after fulfilling the conditions for his bail. Adamu Duza, the spokesperson for the Kuje Correctional Centre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), confirmed the release, stating, "I can confirm to you that he (Emefiele) has met his bail conditions, hence he has no reason to remain in our facility. He met his bail condition and was released past 2 pm yesterday (Friday)."
Emefiele had been granted a N300 million bail by a Federal Capital Territory High Court in connection to alleged procurement fraud. The bail required two sureties with certificates of occupancy and titles of properties within the Maitama District of Abuja, and Emefiele was ordered to deposit all his travel documents with the court registrar. Additionally, he was instructed to remain within the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
